Day 4: Follow in the Footsteps of Alois Jirásek – A Trip to the Fortress and Spa Town

The section of the Jirásek Trail from Náchod to Dobrošov leads you through countryside that inspired the famous writer to pen works such as At the Ducal Court and the four-part chronicle Among Us. The climb to Dobrošov Fortress rewards you not only with stunning views but also with fascinating tours of the Czechoslovak fortification bunkers.

Jirásek trail - Dobrošov

You can follow the whole life of Alois Jirásek and the places that inspired him during a hike along the Jirásek trail, which leads from Litomyšl through the Orlické Mountains to the Broumov region. The part that leads from Náchod through Dobrošov promises beautiful views; however, it is also an ideal stop for military history enthusiasts. At Dobrošov fortress, visitors can take an engaging guided tour of the military log cabins that formed the fortifications of the Czechoslovak border. At the nearby Jiráskova chata you can refresh yourself and enjoy the view of Náchod Castle – the setting of Jirásek’s novel Na dvoře vévodském.

Malé lázně Běloves

On the way from Dobrošov you can stop at Malé lázně Běloves with its colonnade, relaxation zone, cultural events and drinking fountains with healing mineral water.

Tips

TIP: Make sure to stop by the Škvorecký café near the Náchod grammar school, which bears the name of Alois Jirásek. It is famous for its great desserts and coffee. A shop with selected gift and regional products is a short walk away.
