Day 2: For History and Experiences to Potštejn and Opočno

Head to Potštejn, a picturesque town on the banks of the Divoká Orlice River, where you can conquer the castle, take a stroll through a linden alley to the romantic castle, and finish the day with a beer from the renowned Clock Brewery. The castle offers a medieval atmosphere and beautiful views, while at the chateau, you can choose from both classic and nighttime tours – and even spend the night here. Want more? Head by train or car to the nearby town of Opočno with its arcaded castle, or to Rychnov nad Kněžnou for baroque elegance and the Museum and Gallery of the Orlické Mountains.

Potštejn

You can visit the château and the ruins of the castle in one really small town, through which the Divoká Orlice flows – Potštejn. It is easily accessible by train, bicycle and, of course, by car.
If you go to Potštejn by train, be sure to climb to the castle first. You will see that it is no coincidence that it was only conquered once in the Middle Ages – in the times when the notorious robber knights were active here.
From the castle, head into the valley. You cannot miss the famous camp site around the Divoká Orlice River, where you can swim for a while, and then walk through the linden alley to the town. And here, you can, according to merit choose between the château or brewery. Romantic souls will appreciate a walk through the château park and a tour of the château. These are offered in classic, costume, night and even Christmas forms. If you are tired, you can even spend the night in the château.
Of course, you will not want to do that on an empty stomach. So, pop into the Clock Brewery after all. During the summer season, you can sit outside, in the summer bar, where you might even enjoy a cultural programme. The beer hall also offers pleasant seating. In the elegant premises, the local brewers will be tapping several exceptional beers made from both Czech and foreign malts. In the kitchen, they focus on quality Czech cuisine and specialities from around the world. All is made with the best local and regional ingredients.

Opočno / Rychnov nad Kněžnou

Would you like to visit one more castle? Choose – on one side, you can explore the romantic Opočno Castle with its characteristic arcade facade, extensive collections of hunting weapons, a park, and a summer residence. On the other side – in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, you’ll be welcomed by the baroque Kolowrat Castle, which includes the Museum and Gallery of the Orlické Mountains and the newly renovated Church of the Holy Trinity.
