Day 4: From Karlova Koruna through Hrádek to Prehistory

Chlumec nad Cidlinou is a splendid place where history and nature blend together. The castle park and the imposing Karlova Koruna Castle will enchant you with their beauty and offer experiences such as guided tours or concerts, even in the newly renovated riding hall. Nearby is the Hrádek u Nechanic Castle with an English park and a golf course, where you can also enjoy cultural events such as festivals and celebrations. For history enthusiasts, there is the Všestary Archaeopark, where you can learn all about the life of our ancient ancestors.

Karlova Koruna

The expansive chateau park, riding hall, carriage house, and stables are available for tours upon prior phone arrangement. Horse lovers will enjoy the new exhibition on horses and racing titled A Hoof Here, a Hoof There. Refreshments are available at the Chateau Restaurant near the park exit. You can also visit the Café Oranžerie, which offers indoor and outdoor seating.

Hrádek u Nechanic

The relaxed atmosphere of Hrádek u Nechanic Château is underlined by the local English park with a golf course and the Anna of Harrach Café, which prepares seasonal and themed menus for visitors. You can enjoy tours of the château interiors almost all year round. A part of the château is also adapted for wheelchair users – they can see the basic Harrachs’ splendour and glory tour. Christmas tours are available to them as well.
Various cultural events also take place on the premises. The well-established Romantic Hrádek festival takes place there in June, and in August the château hosts the Dvořák Festival and the (Castle) Château Festival.

Archeopark pravěku Všestary

Visit the Všestary Prehistory Archaeopark to discover the life of our distant ancestors. Several expositions will bring you closer to everyday life, so-called aerial archaeology, or the sky and the underworld from the prehistoric man’s perspective. The open-air museum attracts visitors with replicas of buildings from the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages. The Archaeological cycle trail from Hradec Králové to Smiřice will take you through important archaeological sites – Archaeopark is about halfway along the trail, so we will leave it up to you where you go afterwards.
