Markoušovice lookout tower

If you start from Radvanice, your first journey will take you to the Markoušovice lookout tower. It is located at an altitude of 708 m above sea level and measures 22 metres. From here you can enjoy the view to all four sides of the world – with good visibility you can see the panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains, Javoří Mountains, Rýchory ridge, but also a view of the Kladsko borderland and the Rozkoš reservoir, also know as the East Bohemian Sea.

Žaltman lookout tower

Below the lookout tower you can refresh yourself in the gazebo, give your feet a rest and then hit the road to Žaltman. It lies even a little higher – at 740 m above sea level. It is the highest mountain of the Jestřebí Mountains, formerly called Hexenstein (so it is quite possible that witches from near and far used to gather here for Sabbaths). The tower platform is reached by spiral staircase. And believe me, you will be rewarded with an extraordinary view. You can also see our neighbouring Poland, Hejšovina, where Hejkal from Čapek’s fairytales used to run amok, Ostaš and the Broumov walls, and of course, the Krkonoše Mountains, our highest peaks.

Měděný důl Bohumír

TIP: Are you a military history buff? Discover the bunkers of the former border fortifications. There are plenty of them.

However, if you are more attracted by dark caverns and want to get to know the local mining history, do not miss the Měděný důl Bohumír in Žacléř. Visiting the mine requires warm clothing and sturdy shoes, so be sure to dress up a bit before entering. The temperature underground is usually around 10°C.
Naughty children should beware when visiting the mine. The Hell Post Office is located here, among other things.
